SEO for online casino operators
Online casino SEO carries a load it was never designed to carry. Google permits casino advertising in eight US states, and roughly 70% of mainstream paid inventory is closed to you everywhere else.
Acquisition without the usual levers
Casino is the largest vertical in iGaming, around 52% of global gross gaming revenue, and it is the one where the acquisition maths is hardest. Paid clicks on "online casino" run $80 to $140, UK terms exceed £120, and a depositing player costs $250 to $650 through paid channels in mature markets.
Then the doors close. Google made eighteen separate changes to gambling advertising policy in 2025 alone. Meta requires advertiser authorisation. TikTok banned gambling promotion outright. Since March 2026 any ad pointing at a subdomain hosted on a third-party platform is auto-disapproved.
So the load lands on organic, on a site type that is technically hostile to it. Casino platforms routinely exceed ten thousand URLs, which is where crawl budget starts to bind, and faceted navigation across provider, game type, volatility and RTP turns a few hundred real pages into millions of crawlable combinations.
Underneath all of it sits YMYL. Google files gambling under Financial Security in the September 2025 Quality Rater Guidelines, which sets the trust bar at the height of medical and financial content and makes core updates hit harder here than almost anywhere.
Every other vertical treats organic as a channel. You are running it as infrastructure.
What we do about it
Fix indexation before anything else
On platforms this size the gap between published and indexed is routinely wider than expected. A mobile LCP above 3.5 seconds is not a ranking penalty here — it is silent index removal, and the fix is often one deploy.
Contain the facets
Decide which filter combinations deserve a crawlable URL and canonical the rest. Most operator sites are spending the majority of their crawl budget on pages that should never have been fetched.
Build the trust signals YMYL actually rewards
Named authors with verifiable experience, visible licence facts that reconcile with the regulator's register, review methodology, and responsible gambling content written as content rather than a footer link.
Measure the recommendation, not just the rank
6 AI surfaces reported separately alongside conventional rankings, because you can hold your positions and still stop being the brand a model names.
The arithmetic behind online casino SEO spend
Average cost per first-time depositor across channels runs around $170, and $250 to $650 where you are buying paid in a mature market. A $3,900 Scale retainer is therefore roughly twenty-three incremental depositors a month at the blended figure, or fewer than ten measured against paid cost.
How much should a casino operator spend on SEO?
That is a number you can check against your own dashboard in ninety days rather than a traffic chart you have to take on trust. It is also the reason we publish prices — the comparison only works if you can see both sides of it.
What actually needs writing
- /Game and category pages that say something the provider's press material does not. If a model can generate the page from what it already knows, it adds nothing.
- /Bonus and wagering explainers with the terms sitting beside the headline number, which the regulator expects and which answer engines happen to reward.
- /Market guides covering legality, licensing and payment methods — the long tail that survives AI summaries considerably better than comparison content.
- /Payment and withdrawal pages, because deposit and cashout questions are high-intent, under-served, and rarely answered properly by anyone.
- /A glossary, which models cite disproportionately and almost no operator builds.
Where AI search has and has not hurt you
Less than it has hurt affiliates, and unevenly. Informational queries have been hit hardest — AI Overviews are estimated to consume 30% to 50% of informational click-through in this vertical. Brand and transactional searches have held up considerably better, because a summary is a poor substitute for a login screen.
The genuine exposure is different: when a player asks a model which casino to trust in a given market, the shortlist it produces is usually assembled from affiliate and comparison sources, not from operator sites. You are being described by third parties, and around 68% of AI citations point at sources that are not your own website.
What we will not promise
- /Rankings. Nobody can, and in a regulated vertical a guarantee should read as a warning.
- /Speed on head terms. Competitive casino terms in tier-one markets take longer than three to six months and anyone compressing that is guessing.
- /Work in markets you are not licensed for, regardless of how the traffic is geo-targeted.
- /That we can match a large agency's output volume. We cannot, and the client list is short for that reason.
Opening a new market
The pattern that works is two or three markets built deeply, never nine built thinly. Each candidate is scored on local search demand, regulatory clarity, payment maturity and competitor depth, so the sequence is arguable against data, not asserted.
What changes per market is more than language. Pix in Brazil, stake limits in the UK, advertising restrictions in Ontario, spin limits in Germany — each of these changes the product comparison itself, which means the page has to be rebuilt and not translated.
We would rather open one market properly and prove the model than spread a budget across five and be unable to tell which one worked.
One thing worth flagging before an engagement starts. If your platform is white-label and you cannot control canonicals, page speed on game templates or hreflang, say so early. It narrows what is achievable considerably, and we would rather scope around a real constraint than discover it in month two and quietly under-deliver against a plan that was never possible.
There is one more constraint worth naming. Casino operators frequently arrive with a content plan already written, usually specifying a page count. We will size that plan against what the market actually supports before agreeing to it, and in several cases the honest answer has been a third of the number in the brief. Publishing the difference does not simply waste budget — the weakest pages set a ceiling on the whole domain, so the surplus actively costs you.
A note on sequencing that applies to almost every operator we audit. Technical work comes first, not because it is more interesting but because indexation caps everything above it. There is no return on entity work, content or links for pages Google is not holding, and on platforms this size the gap between published and indexed is routinely wider than the team expects. The first ninety days are usually about finding out what is actually broken instead of about growth.

Before any of this, most casinos hit an indexation ceiling they cannot see. Ten thousand URLs with three thousand indexed is the common shape, and publishing more makes it lower.
There is a competitor set here that does not appear in any rank tracker: unlicensed offshore operators taking most of the AI recommendations, in ten European markets tested.
